James Brown is the author of several novels, and the addiction memoirs, The Los Angeles Diaries (2003) and This River (2010). The Los Angeles Diaries was a Best Book of the Year at Publishers Weekly, the San Francisco Chronicle, and The London Independent. Brown received the Nelson Algren Award in Short Fiction, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Chesterfield Film Writing Fellowship from Universal/Amblin, and a nomination for the Pushcart Prize in Creative Non-Fiction. His work has appeared in GQ, The New York Times Magazine, The Los Angeles Times Magazine, Ploughshares, and numerous other publications. He is professor of English in the M.F.A. program at CSU San Bernardino.
