OC PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND UC IRVINE LIBRARIES TO CO-HOST SIXTH ANNUAL LITERARY ORANGE

Best Selling authors Paula McLain and Lisa See to serve as keynote speakers

IRVINE, Calif., (March 13, 2012) – On Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., OC Public Libraries and the UC Irvine Libraries will be co-hosting the sixth annual Literary Orange at the UC Irvine Student Center. Orange County’s premier literary event, Literary Orange brings authors, readers and libraries together for a celebration of literature.

“This year’s event promises to be our biggest ever!” said Helen Fried, OC Public Libraries County Librarian. “Entertaining. Exhilarating. Enlightening!” exclaimed Fried when asked to describe the Literary Orange event in three words or less.

“Since we started six years ago, each year has seen an increase in the level of participation, with last year's event selling out. We welcome the return of one of our past keynote speakers, Lisa See, whose novel "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" was made into a major motion picture last year, and first time Literary Orange attendee Paula McLain, whose novel "The Paris Wife" has been such a hit with book clubs across the country."

Popular best-selling authors Paula McLain and Lisa See will serve as keynote speakers, along with over 40 authors of various genres.

Paula McLain is a poet and novelist whose most recent bestseller is The Paris Wife (2011), a fictional account of Ernest Hemingway's first marriage and upstart years in 1920's Paris, as told from the point of view of his wife, Hadley. Lisa See is the author of Dreams of Joy, which debuted at Number One on the New York Times bestseller list, and of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, and Shanghai Girls. She has been honored as National Woman of the Year by the Organization of Chinese American Women and was the recipient of the Chinese American Museum’s History Makers Award.

Literary Orange offers attendees and fans the opportunity to engage with an exciting array of authors, purchase books and have them signed, ask questions, and learn about the writing process. There will be 14 panel discussions, covering a variety of genres including Inspirational and Literary Fiction, Mystery, Science Fiction, Fantasy, True Crime, War, History, Memoirs, and more. This year will feature a number of new genre panels, including an exciting panel on the law featuring esteemed legal scholars Christopher Tomlins and Henry Weinstein, both of UCI’s School of Law. The Color of Justice panel will focus on writing about the law—both the short view, journalism, and the long view, history.

General admission for the event is $60 per ticket. Students with I.D. and active duty military personnel are $25. This includes a continental breakfast and lunch to enrich the day-long experience. Last year’s event sold out, so be sure to register online at www.literaryorange.org.

STARCARE is generously participating as a Presenting Sponsor and KPCC will be Media Sponsor for the event. For more information about this year’s Literary Orange program or sponsorship opportunities please visit www.literaryorange.org or call 714-566-3055.
