I was born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico through the early 70’s, and spent my adolescence in DeKalb County, GA. I arrived in So. CA in 1978, specifically San Diego, equipped with undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Spanish as well as a secondary school teaching credential. After finishing my M.A. at San Diego State University, I came to UC Irvine in 1984 to complete my Ph.D. in Spanish with an emphasis on LatinAmerican literature.
Since 2015, I have been honored to serve as panel moderator at Literary Orange. I recently “retired” after 33 years as Adjunct Faculty at Irvine Valley College and 26 years of full time Administration and Program Management of human services in various Orange County agencies. As a life-long learner and explorer, I can now dedicate myself more to researching, reading within and beyond my two book clubs – one in English and the other in Spanish, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.
