Lynne is an American long-distance open-water swimmer, motivational speaker, and author. Over the course of more than 35 years, spanning a period equal to 8 Olympic Games, Lynne set swimming world records, contributed to medical research, supported environmental causes, and inspired people to overcome great obstacles. She twice held the overall record for the fastest crossing of the English Channel from England to France, and has completed over 60 challenging swims around the world. She is best known for her swim across the Bering Strait from the United States to the Soviet Union in August 1987. Lynne is a gifted speaker, sharing her inspirational story around the world. Her books include Swimming to Antarctica (2004), South with the Sun (2011), and Open Water Swimming Manual (2013). She has also written a children’s book, called Elizabeth, Queen of the Seas (2014), and her most recent book, Swimming in the Sink (2016), tells more of Lynne’s inspirational stories.
