John Shannon John Shannon

John Shannon was born in Detroit and grew up in San Pedro, CA. He went to Pomona College and then UCLA where he received one of the first MFAs in film. He has worked on a newspaper, in TV, taught in the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa, worked as a technical writer and video producer, lived twice in England for extended periods and spent much of the 1970s as a political activist in the anti-war movement.
He published four non-genre novels before embarking on the Jack Liffey mystery series, about Los Angeles social history. Last year, the series launched its 12th and 13th books from Severn House, On The Nickel--the story of a turf war on L.A.'s Skid Row between the gentrifiers and those trying to provide housing for the homeless, and A Little Too Much Sex--a tale of a black movie star searching for his father after finding he was conceived at a Topanga Canyon sex club in the 1970s.
